Spaghetti with Tomato and Tuna Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 200g spaghetti
  • 1 can of tuna in olive oil (drained)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 400g canned tomatoes (or 3 fresh tomatoes, peeled and chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh basil (for garnish)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the spaghetti: In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt, then cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prepare the sauce:
    • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
    • Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
    • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add tomatoes: Stir in the canned tomatoes (or fresh ones) and season with salt, pepper, and oregano (if using). Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. Add the tuna: Break up the canned tuna with a fork and add it to the tomato sauce. Gently stir everything together and cook for another 3-4 minutes.
  5. Combine: Toss the cooked spaghetti in the sauce until well-coated.
  6. Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and, if desired, sprinkle with grated cheese. Serve hot and enjoy !
